Attracted by the picture printed in the menu, we decided to try the something new – Potato Croquette at West Udon.

Price: Affordable and your money’s worth. Must try their Potato Croquette.

Quality: The crispy crust and soft mashed potato is delicious. We cannot help but full of praise. Must try!

Store layout: The restaurant has a typical Japanese layout concept with wooden furniture and paper lamps. The store is strategically located along Union Street and Northern Blvd. You will not miss it.

"West Udon at the back. I do not know this person."

"see the family is enjoying a meal at the restaurant."

"waah.. look at the mashed potato with the crispy crust."

"a close-up picture of the potato croquette. it is so yummy. *salivating*"

Curry Katsu Chicken Don

Overall rating: 4/5

With our love for curry, we made sure that we tried any type of curry available. We decided to try the Curry Katsu Chicken Don at West Udon. Interestingly, they have an item – Half Curry Katsu Chicken Don and we decided to give it a try.
Price: Priced at $4.50. It is a reasonable and affordable price for children or adults with small stomachs.
Quality: The thick curry has a strong aroma that makes us salivating when it was placed on our dinner table. The Katsu Chicken was freshly fried with crispy crust and juicy chicken meat inside. You must try this – Curry Katsu Chicken Don!!
Store layout: The restaurant has a typical Japanese layout concept with wooden furniture and paper lamps. The store is strategically located along Union Street and Northern Blvd. You will not miss it.

Oyaku Don

Overall rating: 2.5/5

We wanted to try something different from the last rice bowl we tried the last time at West Udon. We chose Half Oyaku Don from the menu. Oyaku Don is cooked with chicken thighs, eggs, soy sauce, mirin sauce, sugar and sake.
Price: Reasonably priced for one. Suitable for children, adults with small stomachs or for sampling.
Quality: The ingredients were freshly prepared but were a little too bland for my taste. You may want to try Oyaku Don.

"looks great on the outside, so-so in the inside"

Nabeyaki

Overall rating: 4/5

It has been some time since we last ate Japanese food. The last time we had was Oyaku Don. We wanted to try something different today and decided to try Nabeyaki.
Price: Affordable. Enough for one.
Quality: The udon had a very nice texture. The clear broth was mouth-watering. It was light and did not contain any MSG. I loved the Tempura Prawn too.
In mathematical terms, Udon + Clear Soup Base + Tempura Prawn = Nabeyaki = Superb!!

"look at the delicious noodles, and tempura prawns... Omg... I cannot stand looking at it without salivating."

Another frozen yogurt chain store, Red Mango, opened along Roosevelt Ave at about one minute’s walk from its competitor – Pinkberry. A different concept from Pinkberry, Red Mango has more seats for customers to rest and enjoy the refreshing frozen yogurt

Our friend back home came to NYC for business and paid us a short visit over the weekend. As an excellent host, we brought him to one of our favorite Chinese restaurant for dinner. Being hospitable, we ordered so much food that the round table which was supposedly for six persons were full of food. We share the food we ordered for the welcome party.

Manhattan is a home to many smells, but the most savoury scent that emanates from the city's numerous halal food carts. These carts serves a box full of lamb or chicken or both with rice that is worth raving for. Marinated with spices, chopped into chunks and then served over a serving of basmati rice and then topped with salad with hot (spicy) and white (sweet-sour) sauces that has to be mixed for true street-style authenticity.

Summer is here! Nothing beats anything else than having an ice cream or popsicle. However, in Flushing, there is an increasing popularity for frozen yogurt where two new joints along Roosevelt Ave were opened earlier this year.

While we were trying to find the famous lamb stew in Flushing, we ended up at No.1 East Restaurant instead. Apparently, this is the first restaurant that offers combo meals. For us, we chose a combo meal for two that which included the Stir-fry Lobster with Garlic, three-cup chicken and Mabo Tofu.

There are so many food places to try in Flushing. However, I thought that it will be more fun if we combine both food quest and the Flushing Freedom Mile.

My friend and I found a bar lounge at the newly opened Queens Crossing Mall, Flushing Queens. Ms Yang Hui Shan, owner and former Taiwanese Golden Horse Award Winner, has a vision to create an ultra hip bar lounge made entirely out of colored glass. TMSK is also found at Shanghai. China.

There are quite a number of economical rice outlets in Flushing, Queens. However, this new outlet attracted our attention and we gave it a shot.

Along Main Street, you will find a good Chinese Restaurant with outdated interior. When you are in the restaurant, you will think that you are in the "Back to the Future" movie, where Martin McFly went to the past. For me, I really thought that I went back in time when I dined there.

Han Ah Reum, HMart in short,  is an American supermarket chain operated by the Hanahreum Group in New Jersey. The chain specialises in providing Asian foods. "H Mart" stands for Han Ah Reum, a korean phrase meaning "One Arm Full of Groceries." There are two Han Ah Reum in Flushing, Queens. Each of them has a restaurant or shops within the supermarket. For instance, H Mart at Union Street has Namoodol Restaurant and H Mart at Northern Boulevard has unnamed Korean Restaurant.

I asked some of my friends living in Flushing on where to get the best steamed buns. They would say, “Joe’s Shanghai”. So, I made some preliminary research and found that this restaurant has received food reviews from the New York Times, Time Out Magazine Eat & Out, Travel and Leisure, Zagat Survey and even in the New York Magazine. Because of these great reviews, we decided to give a try and share our reviews.

I was shopping at Han Ah Reum Mart at Union Street when I stumbled upon a small snack outlet in the supermarket. The tempting and delicious aroma spread throughout the supermarket but you cannot help but follow the smell to the simple booth at the far end of the supermarket.
,

I spotted this Korean noodle restaurant while walking towards Main Street along Northern Blvd. This restaurant is always crowded and many a times there are people who seem to be in the waiting list.

Today I decided to try the Singapore-style Vermicelli for a change. The vermicelli with carrot and cabbage strips is cooked with soy sauce. In Singapore, it is known as ‘economical noodle’ where customers can order either vermicelli or flat noodles as the main and side dishes such as drumsticks, fish balls, spring roll.

I had a strong craving for chow fun (炒粉) after my Thursday class. When I arrived at Flushing Queens, I was desperately looking for a Chinese Restaurant that might still be opened at this time of the night. Without much difficulty, I found Chao Zhou Restaurant that not only serves Chow Fun but also opens till 2am in the morning. I could not wait and ordered my beef chow fun immediately. Beef Chow Fun is usually fried with bean sprout, spring onions, beef of course, and light soy sauce.

Little Lamb Family Restaurant (小肥羊) is located at the tip of Main Street adjacent to Northern Blvd. This simple, air conditioned restaurant is always crowded. Customers would stand outside the restaurant just to wait for their queue numbers to be called.
