Located within the People's Park Complex Food Centre, Dong Dong Hainanese Chicken Rice sells steamed chicken rice prepared using the Hainanese way that will appeal Chicken Rice lovers.

A brand under Gao Ji Food, this stall has endless line of customers queuing to have a chicken rice meal.

Highly recommended by a friend, we ordered half a portion of steamed Chicken over fragrant rice, and braised beancurd and egg.

The steamed chicken was extremely tender and every piece of chicken meat melted into our mouths. The biggest test was the chicken breast, which was often dry and tough. To my surprise, the breast meat was moist and succulent. I sang praises of the meat every time I put a piece into my mouth. (Food rating: 5/5)

Besides their ever-popular steamed chicken, Dong Dong serves braised beancurd (Tau Kwa) and hard-boiled eggs. The sauce was excellent and the tau kwa blew me away. The tau kwa must have simmered in the dark sauce for hours, giving it a nice fragrance. The egg was freshly prepared and when eaten with the sauce, it was awesome! (Food rating: 4/5)

However, the fragrant rice made from ginger and chicken stock could have better texture. The rice was slightly wet that was missing that right chewy texture. No matter how, the rice was still a great combination with the steamed chicken. (Food rating: 3/5)

Hidden in the popular Alexandra Village Food Centre, Soon Lee Fire-Pot Stewed Beef offers a variety of stewed beef and mutton soup. Behind the stall was an uncle, busily preparing the stewed beef, especially the fire-pot stewed beef.

This is still one of my favourite food amongst the stalls at the food centre. The fire-pot stewed beef remains my first choice whenever I am there.

The fire-pot stewed beef had generous portions. The beef pieces were very tender that I can never forget after they melt into my mouth. My favourite in the fire-pot is the soft chunky carrots beneath the beef cubes, which gave the gravy a sweet aftertaste. The chopped Chinese Parsley with the beef cubes together were delicious. The chilli was excellent. You may wish to pour the gravy over rice, which will make it a simple, yet a wholesome meal. (Food rating: 4.5/5)

The herbal mutton soup was amazingly delicious that blew my breath away. The mutton slices was very tender that melted immediately into my mouth. The rich herbal mutton soup was very addictive. I cannot stop drinking and before I knew it, I saw an empty bowl right in front of me. (Food rating 4.5/5)

Established in 1947, Komala Vilas has a long history and is a household name in Singapore. The restaurant is a typical South Indian Restaurant serving authentic Indian Food on banana leaf.  It serves the finest South Indian Vegetarian Cuisine in Singapore.

Indian Prime Minister Narenda Modi, together with Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, dined at the simple restaurant in 2015.

I accompanied my overseas friends to visit the buzzing ethnic district, Little India and brought them for a treat at Komala Vilas.

We ordered two types of South Indian foods - Bhattura and Masala Dosai.

The Masala Dosai is a pancake made from lentil, rice flour with mashed potato fillings. The dish is served together with sambar, dhal, and chutney. I loved the crispy crust and the flavoursome Masala mashed potato. The mashed potato has a nice fragrance that you simply cannot stop eating it until it is all gone. I loved to dip it with dhal curry best. The Dhal curry is made up of lentils, chilli, and spices. Combined together, they are very good. (Food rating: 4.8/5)

Bhattura is served with chenna masala, onion, lemon and chilli. A fluffy deep-fried leavened bread made of white flour, yogurt, ghee or oil, and yeast or baking powder. This is often eaten with chickpea curry or chenna masala. Squeeze the lime into the chickpea curry. Break the Bhattura and scoop the chenna masala. Bite off the raw green chilli for added spiciness. We are back at Nanjing Impressions at Plaza Singapura again. Nanjing Impressions, simply, reminisced the time we visited one of the four great ancient capitals of China.

Nanjing Impressions replicates the ancient restaurant interior, bringing diners back in time. There is also singing performances in old Chinese songs that amplify that atmosphere.

Craving for the Jinling Yong Chun Noodles with Soy Sauce Broth (金陵阳春面) again. I cannot help but to order a bowl of noodles to share. The light broth with noodles cooked in al dente style was fantastic. I could definitely finish this bowl of noodles, if not that I have to share some another. 🙊🙊🙊 (Food rating: 4.5/5)

The Jinling Roasted Duck (金陵烤鸭) was very much like our local braised duck. The sauce was fragrant with nice aromatic spices. The duck meat was tender that I don't even need to chew hard. The best of all, the duck meat tasted so much like chicken! (Food rating: 4.5/5)

I ordered a portion of Deep-Fried Shishamo (渔舟唱晚). The portion was huge and the flour covering the fishes was too thick for my liking. However, the fishes tasted great when you eat with the sauces. This is definitely to share with friends, not to be eaten alone. (Food rating: 3/5)

The Vegetarian Beancurd Skin Salad (南京素什锦) was light with rich fungus aroma. The mixture of different kinds of mushrooms like Shiitake, Shimeji, spinach and beancurd skin stripes were delightful. Because it is light, it will be best eaten first as appetisers. (Food rating: 4/5)

The Crispy Chicken soaked in Sweet and Sour Sauce (王府泡椒鸡), giving a nice sweetness and vinaigrette taste. The chicken meat was so tender that it melted immediately. (Food rating: 3.5/5)

The Spicy Crayfishes cooked in Szechuan Style (招牌麻辣小龙虾) was absolutely delicious. The crayfishes were fresh and the meat was so easy to peel out. The sauce or mala sauce was very fragrant and addictive. I kept going for the shellfish until they were gone. (Food rating: 4.5/5)

The traditional glutinous rice cakes (传统红糖小年糕) drizzled in raw sugar syrup.

Crystal Jade Golden Palace is once again awarded with a Star by the Michelin Food Guide.

We had a family celebratory dinner at Crystal Jade Golden Palace on a Friday night the week after the Michelin Food Guide 2017 was released. I was able to reserve a table quite easily using a reservation app and it was confirmed immediately. I cannot wait to share the lavish experience with you all.

Fried Carrot Cake with XO Sauce was beautifully pan-fried with aromatic wok fragrance. The carrot cake was crispy on the outside and soft inside. Together with bean sprout, preserved radish, and XO sauce, this dish was amazingly delicious. Priced at $11.80, it was wiped out almost immediately. (Food rating: 4.5/5)

Chilled Yellow Crab in Teochew Style was amazing. The crab meat was creamy and the roe was rich. The seafood was accompanied with garlic vinegar dip. The astringent dipping sauce with the sweet creamy crab meat was a superb combination. (Food rating: 4/5)

The beautiful golden brown Crackling Roasted Pork Belly was lip smacking. The meat was savoury and the skin was crispy. The crackling sound was like an orchestra as each diner chewed on the pork belly. (Food rating: 4/5)

Teochew Four Delight Appetiser Platter comprises deep-fried prawn roll, deep-fried crab roll, Sauteed Scallop, and Braised Duck. Amongst the four items, I loved the braised duck best as it was filled with light, rich aroma. The deep fried crab roll was filled with real crab meat. The braised duck meat was tender. The scallops were perfectly sauteed that every bite was great! (Food rating: 4.5/5)

A small portion of Suckling Pig was just the right amount to taste all the delicious food at Crystal Jade Golden Palace. The skin was flavoursome and the sweet brown sauce piqued it further. (Food rating: 4/5)

Szechuan Hot and Sour Thick Soup was one of my favourites. The soup had the right viscosity and the ingredients were very generous. The fresh prawns, mushrooms and bamboo shoot were a great combination. The soup wowed me. (Food rating: 4/5)

Stir Fried Hor Fun with Kai Lan, and Pork Strips, similar to our local Fried Kway Teow, was savoury. The sauce, though light, was appetising and wonderful. Yet, I would wish it would taste better. (Food rating: 3/5)

Baked Lamb Rack cooked with Red Wine and Black Pepper was absolutely excellent. The lamb was succulent and had a flavoursome aftertaste. The gustatory black pepper had a very rich aroma that I personally felt unforgettable. (Food rating: 4.5/5)

Braised Superior Sea Cucumber with fish maw in Brown Sauce was sweet and had a chewy texture. The brown sauce with fish maw was delicious.

Sea Cucumbers are a type of high protein, low fat and low cholesterol seafood. It is believed to have kidney-tonifying , essence-replenishing, blood nourishing, skin moistening, complexion beautifying  and more importantly, anti aging properties. Some said that prickly sea cucumbers are considered as one of the higher quality amongst all sea cucumbers. (Food rating: 4/5)

Braised Beancurd with Mushrooms is commonplace in most Chinese restaurants. I loved the soft texture of the beancurd with the delicious braised sauce. The mushrooms were crispy and delectable. The

The Live Boston Lobster stewed with Vermicelli served in claypot was incredible. The live seafood was fat with meat and the sauce was rich with a tint of subtle bitterness. The vermicelli was cooked perfectly, well soaked in the lobster bisque and yet retained its perfect texture. Compared to Crab Stewed with Vermicelli served in Claypot, this lobster dish was mildly better. Overall, this was still a great dish but the most expensive dish. (Food rating: 4.5/5)
Angel Hair Pasta with Seafood & Black Truffle Sauce blew me away. Don't let the simple presentation deceive you. The Angel Hair pasta was perfectly cooked in al dente style, and the sauce was fragrant. (Food rating: 4/5)
