Madina's Halal Food Cart, New York, United States

Manhattan is a home to many smells, but the most savoury scent that emanates from the city's numerous halal food carts. These carts serves a box full of lamb or chicken or both with rice that is worth raving for. Marinated with spices, chopped into chunks and then served over a serving of basmati rice and then topped with salad with hot (spicy) and white (sweet-sour) sauces that has to be mixed for true street-style authenticity.

This Halal mixed rice was the first meal I ate when I arrived in Flushing, Queens. The basmati rice with masala spices from Madina's Halal Food Cart was fragrant, as well as addicting. Since that first meal, I have been going back to Madina's each time I return to visit. Priced at USD5, you could have either lamb or chicken with rice. At USD6, you can have a combo (lamb and chicken).

Price: Value for money. The portion for the mixed meat-over-rice is sufficient for two persons.

Quality: Great quality. The basmati rice was well cooked. You can vividly see every single grain of rice. The lettuce salad was very fresh and it blended well with the white sauce. The meat (chicken and lamb) succulent. The white and hot sauces make the food even more delicious and spicy. Beware of the hot sauce if you do not take spicy food. You can smell the mouth-watering aroma from afar.

Store layout: The food cart is located at the end of Lippman Plaza along 39 Ave – 138th Street, Flushing. It is very easy to locate.

"don't forget to look for this food cart. The food cart will be there from noon to about 10pm."
