[Old Airport Road Food Centre] A place of good hawker legends, Singapore

The Old Airport Road Food Centre is one of the oldest food centre or hawker centre in Singapore. Built at least four decades ago, the food centre houses a number of good hawker legends.

I share some of the stalls, the recommended and the forgettable from the hawker centre.

You will find the most amazing seafood soup I have ever eaten. Yan Ji Seafood Soup serves the freshest and sweetest soup with intense richness. Compared to the usual seafood soup, this soup comprises minced meat, prawns and fish slices. The minced meat was rich with the essence that every drop of soup was precious. You must definitely try this. (Food Rating: 5/5)

Toa Payoh Rojak was surprisingly different from the one located at HDB Hub. The sauce had the perfect combination of prawn paste and sweetness. The dough fritters, and fried bean curd were nicely toasted. If you want to try Toa Payoh Rojak, perhaps you may wish to try at the Old Airport Road Food Centre. (Food rating: 4/5)

Kueh Pie Tee, a popular Peranakan dish, is a thin and crispy pastry shell filled with a spicy, sweet micture of thinly sliced braised turnips and prawns. This is usually served as finger food. (Food rating: 2.5/5)

Nam Sing Fried Hokkien Mee, one of the popular food legends, was nice. The noodles were cooked to perfection - the nice texture. The expectations and satisfaction derived from the alluring aroma did not match the taste. (Food rating: 3/5)

You may have eaten these from Satay Club at Lau Pat Sat. Have you had Satay  in Hainanese-style? You may try this at Chuen Kee Satay, Old Airport Road Food Centre. Pineapple sauce was added into the peanut sauce, making it naturally saccharine. The meat was very tender and grilled until it was lightly charred, giving the meat a nice aroma. The rice cakes were absolutely delicious. The compressed rice cooked in coconut leaves had a very nice fragrance which was beyond words. (Food rating: 4/5)

At Hougang Jing Jia Mutton Soup Stall (#01-123), you will enjoy a delicious bowl of mutton ribs soup. The ribs were extremely tender that you can just remove the meat from the bone effortlessly. The soup has a delicious aroma. More importantly, the chilli sauce was amazing. This is superb and you must definitely try it. (Food rating: 4/5)
