Jin Xuan Pai Gu (金轩排骨) @ Ximending (西門町), Taipei

The Pork Ribs/Pork Chop (排骨飯) and Chicken Thigh rice (雞腳飯) at Jin Xuan Pai Gu (金轩排骨) were one of the better restaurants in Ximending (西門町). The Pork Chop rice is one of the well-known food in Taiwan.

At Jin Xuan Pai Gu (金轩排骨), it was believed that the owner, Mdm Zhang (張美霞) was the apprentice from the Kingwueng Pork (金圓排骨). After acquiring the skills, she set up a store in Ximending using the same name as the original store. However, it was involved in a lawsuit and thus, changed to its current name.

Enclave in the quieter area of Ximending, the restaurant - Jin Xuan Pai Gu (金轩排骨) believed in using top quality ingredients such as oil in food preparation. Iberico pork was the preferred choice. The restaurant's pork chops were marinated with their secret recipe.

Its specialties - Pork Chop and Chicken Thigh rice sets were TWD110 each (SGD4.80). The taste of the meat did taste very much like Kingwueng Pork (金圓排骨). There was one thing to show was that Mdm Zhang perhaps did learn the skills from the original owner, Mdm Chen.

The Chicken Thigh rice (雞腳飯) set came with a bowl of soup and a plate of rice topped braised minced meat and vegetable sides. The chicken has a crispy crust and succulent meat. The meat was so juicy that you could see the juice seeping out. The marinade was flavourful.  The pickled cucumber slices was sweet and refreshing. What only thing intriguing was that they both tasted very much like the ones at Kingwueng Pork. (Food rating: 3.5/5)

The Pork Rib or Pork Chop Rice (排骨飯) was delicious. The meat was tender and the marinade was done well. There was a tint of sweetness and spiciness in the marinade that was absolutely flavoursome. Interestingly, the pork chop tasted so much like Kingwueng Pork's, which made us agreed that Mdm Zhang might really be the apprentice of Kingwueng Pork. What was disappointing about this pork chop was that they could do better by draining the oil before serving. (Food rating: 3.5/5)

The rice came with the set. Atop the steamed white rice was a bit of the famous Taiwanese braised minced meat, beancurd, and blanched greens. Although the braised minced meat was just a bit, it was very fragrant. The rice was very well cooked - firm to the bite. The rest of the sides were equally good. You can even eat the plate of rice as it is. (Food rating: 3/5)
