There are many hotpots sprouting around the small city in recent years. From the local fish soup-based steamboats to Thai hotpots to Laksa hotpots to Chongqing spicy mala hotpots.
The chilli was sweet and spicy. It somehow tasted like the Thai chilli sauce but with their homemade twist. The sauce is then mixed with a generous serving of Chinese coriander that gave that extra oomph. When eaten alone, the sauce was very ordinary. But when we dipped with the food, the flavours exploded and our eyes dilated.
Unlike the thick and strong broth from Mini Steamboat, the tom yam broth at Coca was somehow light and mildly spicy. We doubted it at first. As we started eating the food from the tom yam broth, we changed our initial comment. Despite us cooking the different foods e.g. Beef, pork, fish, and vegetables in the tiny confined pot, the soup broth did not become bitter. The light spicy broth remained "true" to its essence. It tasted delicious still. Wow!
We had the steamboat buffet dinner feast that day and each person cost almost SGD50 for each person.
We ordered chicken, beef shabu, white lettuce and kang kong (water spinach)
We also had fish slices, bean curd skin, golden mushroom.
Order the bees fillet as it was tender and tasted better in the broth and more importantly, dipped in their special chilli sauce.
We ordered their garlic fried rice, which tasted so much like the way I would have cooked it. It was raveously delicious. The texture of the rice grain was perfect. The fried rice was delicious!! (Food rating: 3/5)
Their special brewed chilli sauce mixed with a generous amount of Chinese coriander. However, I still prefer the chilli from Mini Steamboat Delight.
