Beng Tin Hoon Kee, a Hokkien-style cuisine restaurant

Beng Tin Hoon Kee has been a household name in Singapore, serving authentic Hokkien dishes since 1949.

I have heard of the name many times from my friends and families but I have never had the opportunity to dine there until today.

Together with my colleagues, I finally had an opportunity to try the famous household name.

What I like about Shark's Fin Crab Meat Soup is the thick rich broth with fresh crab meat. I loved the texture of the fish maw in the soup as if I am having white fungus, crunchy. The broth was also full of flavour and warms my stomach. (Food rating: 3.5/5)

Roasted Chicken with Salt was served with crispy prawn crackers and cinnamon salt. I was amazed how the chicken skin could be crispy, while the chicken meat remained tender and moist at the same time. I can say that the chef deserved a pat on his back as he cooked the carcass well. Despite being roasted, the chicken breast remained tender and juicy. (Food rating: 4/5)

Ngo Hiang is one of Hokkien dishes and my favourite. The minced pork with prawn and water chestnuts wrapped with soy skin were delicious as if it was handmade. (Food rating: 4/5)

Fatty Pork Buns or Kung Bak Pao was braised pork belly wrapped with steamed buns as shown on the picture above. The braised pork belly was cooked for long hours that it was soft and melted when it was in my mouth. (Food rating: 3.5/5)

Fried Black Hokkien Mee was served with yellow thick flat noodles cooked in thick aromatic crispy lard and prawn broth, leaving a nice savoury flavour that lingered in my mouth. When served, the noodles still have that nice 'springy' texture, just the way I love it. (Food rating: 4/5)

Ambience: The restaurant was very crowded at lunch time. The service staff were attentive. The interior looked very old school design that made every diner feel comfortable and at home.
