HoF (巧荟红酒&甜品餐厅), Shanghai, China (Food rating: 2/5)

After the delicious lunch, my friend and I decided to have dessert at the highly recommended food place - HoF. Located at Huaihai Road, adjacent to Sinan Road, we wanted to try Shanghai's best Chocolate Cake as rated by a particular food website.

When we arrived at the cafe, it was almost full. But we managed to get a table. Apart from the Chocolate Cake, we ordered three different cakes and a pasta.

We did not enjoy desserts and pasta at all. I will take in people's recommendation with a pinch of salt.

The death by chocolate cake (致命巧克力蛋糕) (see photo above) had two layers of chocolate sponge cakes and three layers of chocolate in between. The chocolate was not milk or dark chocolate. It was rather unique and yet have a fragrant taste. The sponge cake was rich in chocolate which was very comforting. (Food rating: 3/5)

The moist orange chocolate mud (桔味巧克力泥蛋糕) was rich in chocolate. But it was also extremely sweet that was too much for either of us. It was so sweet that we could not finish the cake, even though the chocolate was rich. The cake was baked like a bread loaf and a slice was cut and served . (Food rating: 1/5)

The tiramisu (提拉米苏) was normal. The moist mascarpone cheese was generous. You need to dig right to the bottom of the cup to taste the coffee fragrance. I could not say that it was a wow! as it did not excite us at all. (Food rating: 2.5/5)

The penne pasta lasagna with mushroom had a nice truffle oil aroma that made me salivate. However, it turned out to be a huge disappointment. The pasta was a little soggy and the taste was completely bland despite its nice aroma. At that instant, I thought I was having chicken pie from polar. The sauce was very normal and forgettable.
