Burger Joint - Five Guys, New York, United States

Founded in 1986 in Virginia. Five Guys is a fastfood chain that specialises in burgers, hot dogs and french fries. The restaurant chain uses white and red checkered uniforms to brand their popular fast food image.

We were at Manhattan today and were exploring the city. At first we wanted to find the restaurant - Hudson Place, where we had a celebratory dinner a couple of years ago. But the restaurant was recently closed down. Then we walked to 42nd St to the highly recommended restaurant - Brooklyn Diner. But we could not locate the restaurant once again. Finally, we walked along 34th Street and found Five Guys - a burger fastfood joint. At that time, we were both exhausted and famished. My friend and I ordered a little cheeseburger and a double patty bacon cheeseburger.

The entire meal comprised of two burgers, one large french fries, and two cups of soda. In total, we spent about USD30 for the meal. I think it was a good fast food alternative.

The little cheeseburger was actually a single patty of ground beef topped with a slice of cheese. The burger buns were toasted with a crispy outer crust and soft in the inside. What made it delicious was its tender and moist ground beef patty. I could see the juice oozing out at every bite. This little cheeseburger was especially suitable for those who are small eaters. Its portion was just nice. This is one of the better burgers I have eaten even though it was just a humble cheeseburger. One setback about the burger was patty was especially very salty. the good thing is that I'd ordered a little cheeseburger.  (Food rating: 3/5)

The double patty bacon cheeseburger was topped with onions was delicious. We were asked if we would want any toppings and we selected onions only. The sauteed onions was savoury and fragrant. The bacon cubes were grilled to crisp. The cheeseburger was very similar to the little cheeseburger - tender and moist. The toasted buns were soft and crisp at the same time. Just like the Little Cheeseburger, the patties were especially salty that made us extremely thirsty. (Food rating: 3/5)

The above is the difference in size between the little cheeseburger and the bacon cheeseburger.

Using the serving of French Fries back home as benchmark, we ordered a large serving of fries. When served, we were appalled the size of serving. It was twice the size of the serving back home. Though the fries were filled to the brim in the large soda cup, there were more fries in the paper bag. I was horrified and felt as if I was fries-overload. What I liked about the fries was made from real potatoes. You can see the potato skins on the fries. How I wished that there were chilli/hot sauce sachets available for the fries. (Food rating: 3/5)

After trying Five Guys, I still prefer Shake Shack to Five Guys.
