It has been a long time since I had Teochew porridge. I met my best friend for dinner at Kovan where there was a popular Teochew porridge shop along Upper Serangoon Road. There was a long line when we arrived the shop.

Teochew porridge dishes focus on simplicity and originality, and every dish is cooked with minimum seasoning to retain its original taste.

We ordered quite a number of dishes and three bowls of porridge and spent a total of SGD31.50. The dining experience was superb as the food was delicious.

The braised pork belly was extremely delicious and the meat was very tender. The meat disintegrated into my mouth. The mouthwatering aroma kept oozing out when I chewed the meat thoroughly. Why not pour some of the braised sauce into your plain bowl of porridge? (Food rating: 3/5)

Sweet Sour Pork cubes were nice. Even though they were already cold, they were still fragrant and the meat was very well marinated. (Food rating: 3/5)

I must say that the braised duck meat blew my mind away. As mentioned in my previous posts, I do not really like duck. It was because of its bitter aftertaste and tough meat. However, this duck meat was totally the opposite. The meat was very nicely cooked and the braised sauce was aromatic. I could not stop eating the meat with my porridge. (Food rating: 4/5)

I do not usually order steamed fish when I dine outside. I was usually afraid of the fishy smell and aftertaste. Interestingly, the fish was calling me when I was ordering the dishes. The fish cooked with light soy sauce, ginger and chilli slices. The fish was freshly steamed and it was perfectly cooked. The meat was not overcooked and tough. I could eat it on its own. Marvellicious indeed. (Food rating: 4/5)

I love anchovies the best, especially it is cooked with chilli and peanuts. The anchovies were very crispy that you can eat it on its own. You can see this often when you eat Nasi Lemak. (Food rating: 3/5)

Egg Omelette with preserved radish was best eaten with porridge. The fragrant egg and preserved radish was very addictive. I could not stop eating piece after piece with my porridge (Food rating: 4/5)

Finally, the steamed pork with salted egg was equally delicious. The minced pork patties were very fresh. The way it was cooked was very simple and yet it was very delicious. (Food rating: 3.5/5)
